Remember, the U.S. puppet Hamid Karzai (having worked as an consultant in the U.S. oil industry prior to his instalment as interim president) only controls Kabul, much of the country is controlled by warlords and even the Taliban have been rebuilding. In this highly uncontrolled situation, oppression of women has continued with little statement from the west, particularly the right wing lobbyists who advocated so strongly post-9/11 for invasion of Afghanistan. As revealed by whitehouse insiders O’Neill and Clarke, the Afghan invasion was very much to excuse the pre-planned invasion of Iraq. The lip-service paid by the U.S. to the issue of Afghanistan has now relegated it to be ignored while much of the suffering of the population continues.

An insightful and beautiful film by an Iranian director Mohson Makhmalbaf Khandahar reveals the daily tribulations of Afghan women.
