Australia’s sole support of the U.S. in opposition to the 31-2 motion in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights condemnation of Israel’s extra-judicial killing of Sheik Yassin declares us the American “poodle du jour”.

The Howard government sends an unprecedented message to the terrorists in the Israeli Defence Force and the Sharon government that Australia does not respect the U.N convenants it has signed opposing extra-judicial killings. Killing without trial (of a man in a wheel-chair, easily arrested by the IDF) is murder.

Australia has struggled to free itself of the colonial mentality which has dogged it’s past, having it’s national agenda set to serve England by anglophiles and monarchists. Australians are now dragged by the business-uber-alles agenda of the Howard government eager to achieve a free trade agreement with the U.S. into support for the Bush governments disrespect of international law.

With this vote, the Howard government has declared itself standing within the echelon of nations of the stature and representation of Micronesia and Maldives as sole supporters of the U.S, regardless of the long term effect on Australia’s international regard and moral respectability.
