The Australian Broadcasting Commission is reporting an alleged story to appear in the Sydney Morning Herald that the unelected interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi executed six prisoners on the weekend of June 19th, just prior to the handover and dissolution of the CPA.

If there is any substance to this allegation, this paints the Allawi government more and more similar to the installed Diem government of South Vietnam. Together with the reports of establishment of martial law and a secret police force, it is clear that the only thing that has been established in Iraq after toppling Saddam, is another form of repressive government, albeit subservient to U.S. corporate interests.

Democracy for the Iraqi people, the last remaining cause which the White-house championed as a reason to invade Iraq increasing looks to also be a lie told to deceive the U.S. public. Amy Goodman at Democracy Now! has a revealing interview with Robert Fisk on the degree of underreporting by western journalists of the state of lawlessness in Iraq.
