Further to my description of the Critical Mass bike rally and the police excessive arrests for traffic violations, it is increasingly evident from reports filed on Democracy Now! and through personal reports that the police are arbitrarily arresting people including NYPD approved press and bystanders in the vicinity of a protest and keeping detainees in sub-standard conditions after arrest in a decrepit pier. I would recommend readers (particularly international ones) follow suggestions to call (311 in NYC) NYC Mayor Bloomberg and protest the third world conditions people are being held in for up to 36 hours (according to unofficial statements by members of the corporate press), denying phone calls and access to lawyers.
