Over the same weekend that 22 innocent civilians died in the monsterous criminal bombing in Bali, the U.S. military carried out attacks on tiny Iraqi border towns, killing 15. The Iraqi government via AFP reports 700 people, mostly civilians, were killed in attacks in September. Whose child is more precious? If the standards to which we hold ourselves are the same standards we hold others, we must end the colonial occupation of Iraq and withdraw our troops immediately. Our aid in illegally invading and occupying Iraq and our support for Israeli seizure of Palestinian land is directly responsible for the deaths again in Bali. We can expect further terrorist incidents if we don’t understand such crimes as Bali are retaliation for crimes we, as a nation, inflict on other peoples.
